The Chimera is a four-headed monster and the Wave Boss of the Second Wave.
Appearance[]
The Chimera is a four-headed monster with the body and head of a lion, the head of a goat, the head of a dragon, and having a snake for a tail. The dragon head can breathe fire while the viper tail can emit poison.

The Rising of the Shield Hero[]
Volume 1[]
As the four heroes are summoned to Riyute Village to fight the second wave, Ren, Itsuki, and Motoyasu head straight for the wave boss while Naofumi stayed behind the protect the village. The three attack heroes eventually defeat it and each one of them absorbs one of the Chimera's heads. The three heroes ignored the viper tail due to it being considered "loser material" in comparison to the other three heads.
Volume 2[]
After passing by Riyute village after party and reward ceremony at Castle Town, Naofumi finds the villagers cleaning up the remains of the chimera. The villagers thank Naofumi for saving them and allow him to take what's left of the Chimera's remains. Naofumi butchers it and unlocks the following forms for the Legendary Shield:
- Chimera Meat Shield: Equip bonus: Cooking quality improvement
- Chimera Bone Shield: Equip bonus: Shadow resistance (medium)
- Chimera Leather Shield: Equip bonus: Defense +10
- Chimera Viper Shield: Equip bonus: skill: Change Shield, Antidote Compounding up, Poison Resistance (medium), Special Effect: Snake Venom Fang (medium), Hook[1]
Naofumi then takes what he can of the remains. When he buys and hatches Filo, Filo ends up eating the rest of the Chimera remains. Naofumi continued to use the Chimera Viper Shield for a very long time due to its high defence and versatile counter-attack ability.
The Reprise of the Spear Hero[]
Volume 3[]
In the fifth loop, Motoyasu and Naofumi work together to defend Riyute Village while Ren and Itsuki fight the chimera. The village is successfully able to be evacuated and Motoyasu goes to the Chimera to see what's taking the other heroes so long to defeat the fairly easy boss. Hiding their true strength, Motoyasu, Yuki and Kou joined the battle and they were able to defeat the chimera. Motoyasu took the viper tail and got the Chimera Viper Spear and brought the lion head to Naofumi.
After the party and reward ceremony at Castle Town, Naofumi and Motoyasu passed by Riyute Village to find the villagers cleaning up after the wave. They butcher the parts to power up Naofumi's shield and then took the remains. When they bought and hatched Luna they used the chimera meat as feed which they found out resulted in her having unique coloration.
Trivia[]
- Due to Motoyasu, Ren, and Itsuki taking the other heads of the Chimera, Naofumi was not able to unlock the rest of the Chimera Shield Series.
- When a maturing filolial queen eats the remains of the chimera, it affects their development and changes the colouring of the filolials so that their hair colour in "angel" form does not match their filolial queen colouring. This is why Filo has blonde hair but cherry-pink feathers.
